BELVEDERE - LAUNDRY
NOTES AND DESCRIPTION
Located in the extreme north on the edge of the peperino spur on which the entire nucleus of the ancient village of Vitorchiano rests, the belvedere offers tourists one of the most impressive panoramic views of the city. Although completely remodeled in modern times, the place also presents itself as one of the most evocative corners of the historic center of the thirteenth century. To reach the belvedere, once you have entered the village through the Roman gate, you must continue along via Arringa. After passing Piazza Roma you pass through the door of the Madonna della Neve. From here, continue for the entire length of Via Santa Maria and reach the belvedere with wash house. Here, beyond the railing, the valley of the Vezza stream is visible. The lookout consists of two terraced levels. On the upper square, from which you have access to the entire terrace of the Belvedere, there is a fountain in peperino with rounded lines. Going down the wide side stairways on the left you reach the wash house located in the lower square. Here, leaning against the wall and raised above the floor, is a modern wash house made of limestone and peperino. The wash house is characterized in its simplest parts: a half-moon leaning against the wall from which emerges the tube from which the water flows, which runs through a channel created by two inclined slabs of peperino that act as a washing surface, to pour into a raised manhole. In a corner of the Belvedere square there are some blocks of peperino stone, on which the town was built. On the sides of the square are the houses that surround the site. The place full of charm, over the years has seen hosting exhibitions and events organized by the local municipal administration.
